I actually don’t like M&M’s and don’t eat them at all……
One at a time…
I divide them up by color…..then eat the green ones first, the brown, etc…..red last…..I eat my skittles the same way, the ones I like least first and then the ones I like most last….
I usually just eat them, sometimes I will pick certain colors. I’m not to picky on M & M’s since they all taste the same to me
If it were skittles or something with flavors I’d have a different answer 
I rarely eat a whole bag, but at the Mexican restaurant where we eat dinner on Wednesdays, I get a huge handful out of the vending machine every week. I then line them up by twos in a row, by color (two reds, two blues, two greens, etc). Any odd ones get eaten first, then I eat them two at a time. Yes, I know I’m weird…it’s my own personal entertainment
By the handful…so I avoid them.
I like M&M’s with nuts. Any color, just pop ‘em in but one at a time.
Only the yellow ones. I count them out into four separate piles. We eat them one at a time, taking turns with everyone else in the family (one for kid, one for kid, one for dad, one for me, and so on). We only have a small snack bag (the ones sold with the candy bars) at a time, and only about once a month.
We’re allergic to the other colors (chemical sensitivities), so the rest of the bag goes into treat bags, care packages, and the candy bowl on the counter in the kitchen for guests.
I divide them up into colors. Then I count the number in each group and eat the largest group first, then the second largest etc.
With Friends of course! If there ever was a treat to share M&M’s are it! My personal Fav is the Peanut ones

I am not compellingly addicted to the new Dark ones…my fav forever lol
