Books with terrible endings

I just finished a book with an ending that I didn’t like. I’ll spare you the title on the blog (email me if you really want to know) because I still thought it was an excellent book that I couldn’t put down.

What books did you think had terrible endings?

Well, the first one that comes to mind is “Fifty Shades of Grey” which had such a stupid ending that it made me want nothing to do with the sequels because it would be more of what’s-her-name whining about something inconsequential and I just couldn’t stand that.

There are a lot of different ways for a book to end badly. If the central character has done nothing sensible throughout the story, you can be fairly sure you won’t like the ending. The Lovely Bones, on the other hand, was sad but had a very satisfactory ending.

The Getaway Man, by Andrew Vachss, had potential but I felt it would end badly. And it did.

I rarely remember specific books. If I’m not liking much about a book, I stop reading it and go on to something else. I can’t remember one where I read to the ending, then didn’t like it.

History of Love, Sarah’s Key, Life of Pi
