My glasses. My wedding ring, because it was loose in my hand when I had to put the book down.

Librarians used to have legends about what they would find in returned books, and one reader brought me what she had found — a handful of hairpins held together with a rubber band. The craziest I heard of was an old, overcooked scrambled egg!

I’ve used quite a few things – probably the remote control would be the weirdest. Everyone in the house was looking for it for the TV, and I had it in the bedroom in my book.

Anything that comes to hand, be it small or large. I may have used a banana peel, but never an egg!
