Hanging curtains

When you hang curtains on your windows, do you hang them so they are flush with the window frame, or so they are above, or all the way up to the ceiling?

I go above the window, but not to the ceiling.

Above and outside the window on the wall. If I have to go to the ceiling, that’s OK.

The only curtains we have are valances (over shades) in the bedrooms. They are mounted on spring rods inside the window casings.

Neither. (Seems to me I did a post some years ago about window treatments.) If I actually had to hang curtains, they would be hung from a rod mounted at the top of the window frame, and they’d hang below the frame. Fortunately, part of the arrangement of the Towers includes carpet and window treatment, and I never have to think about them again.
