All About A Handbag

While I was in Chicago on Saturday I fell in love with a Coach handbag, however I could not bring myself to buy it – even though I walked into the Coach store FIVE times throughout the day with every intention of buying it. Why couldn’t I do it? I do not know. It’s not the price, I’ve spent that much before and haven’t looked back.

Have you ever wanted to buy something, intended to buy something, but then just could not bring yourself to complete the sale?

  • Yes, I did the just last week while looking for a new computer. I did end up buying one but not the one I really wanted.

  • i’m struggling with shopping with now, usually i have no problem buying.
my youngest daughter went into coach on friday and now “gets it”. she picked out both a purse and wallet, which would run me $500 and i told her NO.

Oh my!!! I just checked the Coach web site. And I thought I was being extravagant for spending $50 on a bag that has lasted me for more than 15 years (so far)

  • I’ve done that a number of times (although not for a $500 handbag ..no way on that)

But here is my general rule for buying things:
It works very well for me.
If I see something that I think I really, really, REALLY want……I wait 72 hours.

If I am still thinking about that item after 72 hours,, I will go back and get it for myself.

I have found that to be a very effective way to avoid buyer’s remorse.

  • Nope. Life’s way too short. If I really want it, I get it. I have started a “Is this something I must have” mantra though, because too often I get it because I “just like” it.

And for the record, I think there are bags that are WAY better than Coach for the same price. Too many people buy them, so you see yourself coming and going too often…

  • All the time. It is usually something I really don’t need when I really need to buy something I do need.

  • Unless it’s something I really need or it’s some kind of bargain I normally do contemplate a little before I buy something and have to talk myself into the purchase. Very occasionally I will spoil myself if I feel deserving or I have some ‘birthday money’ and will go up to the counter, no questions asked. I’m only just finding my feet in the working world so hopefully I will have more days of ‘guilt free’ spending ahead.

There was one Coach purse I fell for. I needed a new purse, the compartments inside were just what I needed and it looked sophisticated and stylish enough to warrant the price tag but I couldn’t bare to splurge the money on it :( Maybe some other day.
