Apples and bananas. We pick fresh grapefruit off the tree and it sits in the bowl until we toss it.

Most fruit is in the refrigerator until we use it. I try never to buy fruit that we aren’t going to use, because it is a luxury item here.

I bought four apples last week and cooked them yesterday, i.e., made real applesauce.

We always have apples. If anything is left over, it’s a banana.

We’d love to have some of Mimi’s grapefruit. Mostly I get oranges – just enough to last the week. Otherwise things don’t get eaten.

  5. Bev says:

Bananas and oranges are eaten first. Sometimes apples are left over.

  6. Lindy says:

Right now it’s just apples and oranges in our fruit bowls. They’ve hung around a little too long this time but we’re still working on them. I should have put them in the ‘fridge but I don’t like cold fruit. Mimi’s grapefruit sounds pretty good, too.

  7. Jon says:

Bananas. I eat them throughout their metamorphosis. I regularly wrestle them away from the fruitflies.
My wife has only a fifteen minute window where they are not to green or not too brown. I have often woke her in the middle of the night and said “they’re ready”.

  8. I have apples, oranges, plums, kiwi, bananas, nectarines and clementines.
Nothing goes to waste. I only buy what I will eat that is in season or shipped from some third world country out of season.
My local farmer’s market has been chasing me with torches and pitchforks.

I’ll always choose a banana first, it’s easiest to peel and not messy. I will take an orange last, I hate peeling them. Apples are in the middle, if I have a knife to slice them I’ll gladly eat them, otherwise, they sit. I’m weird.

We keep all of our fruit in the refrigerator and we always have apples. Lately I have also been buying a lot of strawberries. We hardly ever have any fruit left…seems I purchase fruit three or four times each week because we always run out.
