Yes and I did often while I was in college to save money. But now I have too many other things that take up my time so it’s easier to take it in for an oil change.

Sure. My Dad taught me the basics when I went to college with a car.

Years ago, my teen age actor son and I drove to San Francisco and had been told by my husband that we would have to stop halfway there to add a quart of oil. The two of us pulled off at a fast food stop and stood there, looking at the engine, feeling like idiots, and wondering where to put the oil.

I haven’t learned anything since then, so no, I could in no way change the oil in our car!

I can pump my own gas, though!

Sure, this was something we were taught to do for the ‘mechanical’ part of the test in the UK.

I’m very proud to say that yes, I could. And have.
My mum’s ex-next-door-neighbour was a mechanic and he made sure I could do ALL basic car maintenance.

I’ve changed replaced a head gasket, changed an oil filter, changed the oil, replaced a clutch and carburretor before.

  7. Yes … but I prefer someone else doing it.

  8. I know how to check the oil level and have added a quart of oil a few times but there is no way I would attempt to change the oil myself. Better left to the professionals! LOL!
