What car? Insurance paid me less than $5,000 for my salt-water-logged car. (Sure it was old, but Hondas have been known to last for twenty years.)
My car was always available to my daughter when hers was in the garage. I’m not sure if I’d lend it to someone whose driving record I didn’t know. (I definitely would not lend it to my brother-in-law; I’ve seen his driving!)
We don’t own a car any more. We either walk, take the bus, the metro or rent a car. No more car payments for us. No insurance either. You still have to careful on the streets though. Someone backed over my wife’s foot with an electric wheelchair. (OUCH!!!!)
We have done so on several occasions. And we have borrowed a car with a top carry-rack and a truck when needed.

I would if necessary, but haven’t had to.
We have, and we have. Not lately, though.
