Dead in the water; I haven’t attempted chess since my son was little — and he soon outstripped me.
I never learned to play chess.
I never learned to play the game, mostly because no one around me played the game.
Okay, but needs to get better, as the kid is in chess club and going to quickly outpace me if I don’t learn some real strategy. The other night while playing, he shouted, “I just put you in a fianchetto!”
The last time I played chess, about 2 years ago, I was whupped by a 10 year old. That’s how good my chess game is!
We have a chess set that is for kids (or people who need to learn the game …) that has the moves on the pieces. It comes in very handy. There’s a picture on my blog of it here http://outsidemyhead.com/rooks-and-queens/
