How can Starbucks continue to grow like they are? Has it affected the quality of their product? Do you think there are too many of them in your city? I’ve heard that people are addicted to Starbucks, are you?

I don’t like Starbucks myself but I can understand their success in the U.S. Here in Germany there are so many cafés where you can get an excellent cup of coffee and delicious fresh cake in nice surroundings that there isn’t much need for Starbucks. That hasn’t kept them from opening up here too though. I know there’s one in Frankfurt, but as far as I know we don’t have one here in our town – yet. Iexpect they will appear wherever there are a lot of American tourists.
i used to be addicted. i think it was just the level of caffiene in the coffee– it would keep me up all nite so i could write papers hours before they were due in university. now i won’t go near a starbucks (they’re poping up all the time around melbourne). i LOVE the way coffee is made in australia. none of the tall, grande and vente…. all just a nice small cup of flavourful coffee with warm frothy milk or soy milk at the top.
starbucks is here, but our coffee shop is tim hortons (timmies), but i don’t drink coffee, i drink their decaf tea. i addicted to the convenience, not the caffeine.
There’s Starbucks everywhere here, I think there are just too many. Personally, when I want a latte or cappuccino, I’d rather go to a local coffee shop rather than support the huge chain. As for my daily coffee, it may be somewhat hypocritical, but I’m actually addicted to Dunkin Donuts!
I like to support local coffee houses and used to oppose Starbucks, but there are few locals around and generally the cost of a coffee there is much higher than at Starbucks and often doesn’t taste good. Whoa-is that a run on? So-yes, I am addicted to Starbucks.
I LOVE Starbucks, but the nearest one is half an hour away. I certainly don’t go there often enough to be addicted. And they haven’ t grown ENOUGH…when they build one in our town, they can stop then
not addicted… and there are only a few around me… I tend to find the less popular places and I’m not a daily coffee person so I’m not that picky or committed to any one brand
Replace “Starbucks” with “McDonald’s” and go back 25 or 30 years, and you could ask the same questions — and probably get the same answers.
Sure there are too many, in some areas. There are parts of NYC where you can find two Starbuckses (is that the correct plural) one block apart, or across the street from each other. That’s unnecessary.
I think it gets to the point, though, where quality is secondary to consistency. Once their following reaches critical mass, the chain reaction takes over, and as long as people get what they’ve come to expect they keep coming back (and the company keeps opening more stores).
I refer you to season 1 episode 2 of The Sopranos for further commentary on Starbucks (which I really can’t repeat here and do it any justice).
I do not like Starbucks and rarely go into one. The coffee isn’t exceptional and the cost is ridiculous. My coffee preference is Peet’s, which is, IMO, far superior. It makes me angry that Starbucks has specifically targeted Peet’s…whenever Peet openes a new location, Starbucks opens one within the same block. In fact, Starbucks started BECAUSE of Alfred Peet, and originally bought its beans from Peet’s.
I’m not a fan and think it’s way over priced. I prefer Folgers Morning Blend… LOL cheap but good
Starbucks is growing like a virus because caffeine is addictive. Put caffeine addiction and supply and demand together and you’ve got a Starbucks on every corner. I love the mighty Starbucks too but I don’t need to spend $100 on coffee a month. I make my own latte and pour in a couple spoonfuls of vanilla syrup. Same caffeine fix for about $15/month.
I don’t drink coffee so I’m not into the whole Starbucks thing. I personally think it’s a waste to spend so much money on coffee. I’d rather spend it on diapers or something nice for myself like a book or something. I just received a $5 gift card for V day from a friend for Starbucks. I’m giving it to my hubby. LOL
I love Starbucks, but there’s not one around here unless you count the one inside SuperTarget (So I get it there when I shop!), but I visit Caribou Coffee EVERY single morning! I know I need to cut back as my wallet is being drained daily, but I just love it!!!!!!! (There are worse things I could be doing daily, I suppose!)
I am three hours away from Starbucks but I prefer Dunkin’ Donuts or Tim Horton’s coffee. I don’t go for the fancy flavors and stuff. Just gimme coffee!
I was addicted to starbucks, bit since my heartattack I am not allowed coffee. No caffine, why bother.

Starbucks sucks.
They are overpriced and overrated
We have three within a 3 mile radius and two within 8 blocks in the university district. \
One has a DRIVE THRU WINDOW!!
We also have one inside a Kroger’s grocery store.
Our local coffee houses cannot stand up to the Starbuck’s juggernaut.
I hate them and refuse to support them in any way shape or form.

There has never been a Starbucks in Western Australia but they were multiplying on the east coast of Australia until about 18 months ago.
Starbucks then started closing down stores in a big way. They shut down dozens at once and hundreds of people lost their jobs overnight.
I’m not sure if there are any stores left in Australia now.

Another reason I love Western Australia!

I have a Starbucks about 300 steps from our condo. I have a Dunkin Donuts shop 200 steps in the opposite direction. I have been to Starbucks twice this year. same for DD. I like my coffee at home usually. If I had to pick between the two, I would go with Starbucks. The regular coffee is better at DD but the customer service and ambience is terrible.
I will not go to Starbucks for a regular cup of coffee. It will be something exotic like a Pabst Blue Ribbon Latte w/Walnut hashish brownie. I did that once. I spent $352.00 eating everything in sight. a lot of people bring their laptop to Starbucks. I brought along my desktop pc. They wouldn’t let me plug it in.

I literally overheard this conversation a few weeks ago. A guy near me at work was calling his husband (yes, his) anyway “guy” was very upset that he’d locked his keys in the car. He calls Hubby and is explaining, asking if he has access to the spare key, when can he come meet him, blah blah blah… “but please hurry, I left my Starbucks in there!!!”
I swear to you… Guy was nearly in tears!
