Dear diary …

I never could keep a diary going, I remember receiving one of those lockable ones as a pre-teen and a 5 year one as a teenager … pah! 2 days usually ~ Christmas day and Boxing day usually!  Yet, I’ve managed to keep my blog going for nearly 2 years.  I do have a diary now, to keep track of appointments and meetings in school … but even that is not always as up to date as it should be!

So tell us, do you write a diary as well as blogging?  If you do, why?  If you don’t, have you ever been a diary writer?

Well, I actually have a blog AND a journal, but both are on line, and I add to each daily. The journal has been going for nearly 7 years, the blog for about 2-3 years now (the latter more for video than for topics of substance)

I’ve got diaries (I call them journals) that date back about 15 or so years. They are all volumized and handwritten. My blog (Thoughts Outside My Head, not the QOTD) has become my journal for the past 1-1/2 years and now I don’t write in my journal at all. Sad I know. I do keep a separate journal for my daughter and my husband and I have been writing in it here and there for the past 3 or so years. We’ll give it to her when she grows up.

Sadly, I never was able to keep a written diary or journal going. I have one diary from early adolescence that I actually filled up but the date spans are huge and many entries start, “Dear Diary, sorry I haven’t written”. Then I have numerous blank books with maybe 4 pages written in-more journaling attempts… Then in college I actually continuously wrote in a 3 subject notebook-but the stuff I wrote was…junk to say the least. My blog is the only thing I’ve been consistent at but if you look back at my archives, there are 1 or 2 big date gaps. I’d say these past two years have been the best, but I don’t even write about everything that goes on in my life. Someday though, I’d like to print the pages.

  4. i don’t keep a diary, had one of those preteen ones that i never kept, i think i used it to doodle in. my blog, while it is about me, isn’t what i’d call a good reflection of what is actually going on in my life and how i feel.

I haven’t ever been good at keeping a journal or a diary. My blog is for entertainment, mostly…allowing friends and family to keep up with me. I do have a secret LiveJournal blog where I post my dark thoughts…I’m usually pretty cheery, but I have to have somewhere to vent when things get hairy :)

I USED to keep a diary in my teen years. Came across them the other day and was so embarrassed to read what I was writing lol Last time I kept a diary I was about 20, reading what I’d written in there made me wonder why on earth I’d married him at all, I was certainly doing plenty of venting in it anyway!

No diary now, just blogging, and as you know, I don’t always write what’s going on in my life in the detail I used to! lol

I kept a diary as a kid. I was pretty good at keeping up with it! When I got into college, it wasn’t a diary anymore, but just a notebook, that I wrote my thoughts into. I didn’t have a computer in college, so no blogs then! LOL! I don’t have them anymore, because most of them were about the college boyfriend. I complained about him a lot! Maybe it’s a good thing we never got married!

As a kid and teenager, I would keep a diary sporatically. I know I filled a notebook or two, but it took years to do so. Now, I currently have a livejournal blog that I use primarily to communicate a few thoughts to my friends, and a Word document on my computer that I’ve had for over two years now. This Word document is the most honest and completely “me” writing that I’ve ever done!

I have kept a diary during different times in my life. I kept one when I was a teenager. I also kept one for a couple of years when my daughter went off to college.

  11. Marcia says:

I tried keeping a diary years ago, but I would put so much detail it took longer to write what happened than living it, so I gave up.

  12. Karen says:

I have continuous journals going back to when I was 15 years old. However, the one I’m writing in currently has sporadic entries dating back to 1998, so it’s not something I do a lot of anymore. (I keep it for notes to myself about myself, mostly.) For the past year and a half I’ve kept a blog and that’s a little different of course but a lot more fun.

  13. Brenda says:

I also used to keep a diary…I have books and books that I used to write in. Now it’s just my blog. I actually much prefer typing as opposed to writing with a pen. It’s easier and faster, and I can actually read it. LOL

I have journals as well as my blog. It’s for my most personal ramblings… and when I need to vent or explore relationships with family.
