Doggy birthday parties

Sunny asked in the Weekend Q&A ….

We take our dog to Day Care twice a week and she has a Spa Day once a month. Now, the kennel is offering Doggie Birthday Parties. We kinda draw the line there.

Would you have a birthday party for your dog?

I wouldn’t have a birthday party for my dog today, and I definitely wouldn’t pay to have the doggy day care throw her a birthday party. However, about 20 years ago I *did* have a birthday party for my dog, Hannah. I got her a birthday cake from the grocery store (yellow cake) and it said “Happy 1st Birthday Hannah!” on it. The bakery department was a bit a surprised when I said it was for my dog.

There were party hats, presents, and I invited my immediate family. It was a big deal! I know I have pictures somewhere of it, LOL! What can I say? I was 21, single, and my dog was VERY important to me. :)

We make a liver cake for Harry every year and put a freshly baked peanut butter treat on top. Riley used to get raw salmon. We light a candle and sing happy birthday. There are no invites, just immediate family. But yes, we mark it.

We haven’t had a dog birthday party in quite a long time. Both of the current dogs were born in late November (3 years apart) and that’s when we are usually visiting my family in Honolulu. If we are home for either dog’s birthday, there is meatloaf (“meat cake”) for both dogs, though!

  4. I’m pretty sure I would be the crazy lady with the doggie marriage.

  5. We no longer have a dog but I wouldn’t have a party for a dog. The dog has no idea of what it’s all about so it’s really only for the humans anyway.
