Holiday breakfasts – good and bad

Simon and I are driving through France right now, we stayed at a hotel in Rouen last night and are on the road again.  I have no doubt (I’m writing this in advance) that the hotel breakfast was typically French – croissants, confiture and café au lait – and here is where I have no doubt you are going to slay me … I am always really let down by French breakfasts!  Yep, there you go mes chères, I’ve admitted it - really let down!!  Yes I like croissants, yep I adore café au lait, yep I like dunking one into the other to horrify my husband BUT where’s the eggs?  And the fried pig products?  And the sauté veggies – be they mushrooms, peppers, onions or tomatoes?  Where’s the savoury goodness?

Now a holiday in Éire, that’s a whole different matter and bring it on I say … rashers, sausage, blood sausage, potato cakes – yes lead me to a Full Irish!!

So, what about you, where’s the best and worst places you’ve eaten holiday/vacation breakfasts?
