Home Alone

Every weekday morning I have the house all to myself — from the time my daughter gets on the school bus until I leave for work. It’s only about 30 minutes, but I relish that time as it’s very rare that I have the house to myself.

How often do you have the house to yourself? Do you look forward to it as much as I do?

We’ve been married 35 years and hubby has been retired since 1989.
This is a CLASSIC csse of the saying: “when he retires, you get half as much money and twice as much husband”.
He will not BUDGE out of the house unless he has a very specific reason to do so.
Otherwise, he is in front of the TV or his computer, reading or just generally clumping around in a grubby T-shirt, yawning and stretching. (Sometimes he will go out and do yard work.)
He loves to go to the range on Tuesdays.
    Sometimes I go.
Sometimes I just come up with an excuse and stay here.
He goes out to dinner with his buddy every Wednesday and then they hang out and talk until about 10:00.
I cannot tell you how much I look forward to Wednesdays when I have the house and the TV all to myself from 3:00 to 10:00.
I guess the fact that he seems happy and he is here and not out in a bar somewhere is a good thing BUT he just doesn’t seem to get that I’d like to have the place to myself every now and then.

Like Sunny, I don’t have the house to myself as much as I used to before my husband retired. He has no buddies that he does things with and no hobbies that take him out of the house. We have a 2-story house and he spends most of his time upstairs, while I spend most of my time downstairs, but I still miss having the house completely to myself. Fortunately, he does volunteer at his old office a couple of days a week.

My sweetie is usually within 50 feet of me. Occasionally I go for a walk alone. I visit the pharmacy, go to the hardware store, go to the supermarket, go to the bank, go to the health food store. I go to Food Lion and pretend I am the greeter.
“Welcome to Food Lion.” I say that to the employees. They are suppose to say it to me. It gives them a little chuckle.
We all need a little space once in a while.

I think I have the house too much to myself. Whilst I appreciate the peace and quiet it does get lonely sometimes. My boyfriend works from 7.30-4.30 as a process/chemical engineer, I’m currently waiting on some replies from jobs/placements in a new city and country, the friends I’ve made work during the day and I’m still trying to find even volunteer work to do during the daytime. I think a busy schedule would make me appreciate an empty house a bit more.

I rarely have the house all to myself. But when I do… oh, the silence is a slice of heaven.
