No, we did the traditional vows. As a matter of fact, most of the ceremony was in Hebrew and I could not translate for you. In my mind I was making my own vows, including never to leave him. (It wasn’t until later that I considered murder.)

  2. maryz says:

No. Folks didn’t do that 50+ years ago. We were married by a justice of the peace.

  3. Jennifer says:

I got married in a Catholic Church, so we had to memorize the “regular” ones to say.

  4. Bev says:

We were married in a Catholic church too, in 1965, and people weren’t writing their own vows them.

  5. Carol says:

Yes, and the Judge who was officiating forgot most of them, so we had the shortest wedding ceremony ever. About 6 minutes, I think. The party was good though.

  6. Indigo says:

We had to memorize our standard “Catholic” wedding vows as well, only I changed mine to say “love, honor and cherish” while my husband said “love, honor and obey”. ;)

  7. Lindy says:

No; we used the traditional vows and I’m certain ours said “cherish” rather than “obey.”
