As a teenager, much to the chagrin of my parents, I used to write them to my small town newspaper all the time. Apparently I had a lot to say. Now I don’t even read them.
Oh my word, yes! This town publishes every letter that is written and I’ve written so many that people don’t seem to realize I’ve been the town theatre critic for ten years, but only comment on my letters to the editor! .-= Bev´s last blog ..Davis Has Talent =-.
I have only written one letter to the editor, it was published too. I probably wouldn’t write another one though, and I never read them. My husband reads them ALL THE TIME, in the newspaper and in all of his magazines.
My Daddy, Charles Harvey Courtney started writing Letters to the Editor (LtE) in 1957 well into his 80s. He taught 8 children & 16 grandchildren to speak up, respond to neighborhood, community, state, nation & world events, speak up against injustice, and for liberty, peace & constitutional rights. When I taught school, I taught students to write a consumer complaint letter and LtE on an issue valued by them. Our beloved Dad/Grandfather CHC died at 84y.o. on Vets Day 11-11-0 & I vowed to write a LtE in his honor at least once a week responding to something stupid, mean, oppressive, unjust, etc for the rest of my life. One of his poem-songs, “Depression Blues” we recorded & posted to YouTube. He loved it. Carrying on a great American tradition! http://www.youtube.com/user/CourtneyClan. just google Depression Blues+CourtneyClan
