I’m always surprised to get any kind of comment from someone I didn’t know was there. I don’t track hits at all, and I haven’t since I gave up the D’land gold, which never told me much.
I love getting comments, but don’t get many. I don’t check my tracker. I just enjoy the idea that there are people out there who read. (And I need to get back to writing regularly.)
I am shocked to know that I have about 200 readers on my Blogger blog and more than 500 on the original journal (which is identical to the Blogger one). I get almost no comments, but every once in awhile, some lurker steps out of the woodwork and says hello. I don’t mind lurkers at all. I just heard from a woman who says she has been reading me for many years and was making her very first comment.
Do you get lurkers on TMA?
Bev, I think there are a few lurkers for sure.
Quite a few. I know all of my mother’s sisters read it, but have never commented. I get occasional emails from them regarding things I’ve posted. I also get some weird hits from different places in the world, so I know there are a few regular readers, but I have no idea who they are. I wish they’d say hi because I’m curious, but it doesn’t bother me that they don’t.
When I cared about stats and used to check them, I found a hit from Estonia and jokingly I wrote an entry “to all my Estonian readers.” Years later I actually got a comment from someone in Estonia…and then I visited the country as well. Strange world blogging opens up for you!
I do think that it’s harder to get a good feel for how many lurkers you have because of Google Reader, you can’t really tell how many people visit through a rss reader of some sort.
I love it when someone comments on my blog. I don’t expect every one who reads my blog to comment.
I know I have touch something in that person when they comment. I like to answer people who take their time to say something about my blog.
