What is the most unique gift you’ve ever given and/or received?
I kept a pretty extensive diary for about 10 yrs when the kids were little. One year I typed the whole thing up and had it printed and bound, one copy for each kid. I don’t know if that was the “most unique” but it certainly was the gift that has the most impact, ever. My son told me I had “given him back his childhood.”
I may yet think of something else, but my first thought was a huge box I received for my eighteenth birthday. (From a couple of friends who knew the real me.) The box was marked 1.
When I pulled off the paper, the next box was marked 2. And so on, down to a small envelope marked 18. The envelope contained three tickets to “My Fair Lady,” still a sold-out hit after two years.
Guess who I chose to go with me. 8)
I’ve given John a couple of goodies for birthday presents. One was a hot air balloon ride (and I got to go, too). The other was a ride in a WW2 trainer plane, doing stunt flying. It took a long time for him to wipe the grin off his face.
The most unique gifts I ever got were from an ex. And I don’t mean unique in a good way. I got a waffle iron – keep in mind I was a 20 year old college student who definitely did not make waffles. I also got a used bike – conveniently his as he bought himself a new one. Did I mention he’s an ex?
I don’t know how “gifty” this would be considered but during the early 1980s I gave my husband the square Tupperware pickle container –

which he requested and used for cleaning his service revolver (he was a policeman at the time). He would pour the cleaning solution into the container and put the revolver parts on the insert to lift the parts in and out of the solution. It worked quite well.
Perhaps the most unique gift I received was my engagement ring, which I received 25 years *after* we married.
