on one side we have our landlord’s parents (a really cute retired greek couple who bring left over meat to us for our dog and collect our mail for us when we go away). the other side is a large italian family of 3 generations (who we’ve never really met) who are really loud (mostly the grandmother and 2 or 3 young grandchildren) during the day.
I know Carmen Diaz lives next door. Not kidding – same name, not the same bank account (she says). I’ve met my neighbors on both sides but we all pretty much keep to ourselves around here.
LOL…we live in the country in the middle of 7 acres. One of our neighbors raises emus, another built his own addition onto his mobile home and the third is working on a 6 foot tall chain-saw sculpture of a bear. We wave and nod when we pull out of the driveway but I wouldn’t recognize any of them is I saw them at the grocery store.
we have great neighbors, they keep to themselves mostly, but if you stop and chat, they always chat. we do block parties a couple of times a year and get close to 100% participation. if someone is away, we look out for their home, pick up their mail, etc. and they do the same for us. if they are having a party in the backyard (that for whatever reason we’re not invited to), we respect their privacy, try and keep the dog out of the back and barking at their friends and they do the same for us. we feel very fortunate to have the type of neighbors we have.
On one side we have a mail carrier single man who is pleasant, friendly, and takes care of his place but plays LOUD music starting about 8 every night. Bedtime for my children and we can hear it throughout our house. Lucky we like his choice of music. And DH and I play ‘name that tune’ with it.
On the other side we have a couple with dogs who only recently allowed them off the deck. We had dubbed this the ‘poop deck’ because that’s where they trained them to do their business. GROSS! They are horrible with their yard as well.
Across the street we have lots of kids who I won’t let mine near for fear of what they might hear or learn. These boys were potty trained to relieve themselves outdoors instead of in a restroom (we’ve seen them do it out front on the house) since they moved in. We live in a suburban neighborhood. This is not ok.
Several neighbors have up and walked off letting their homes foreclose. A newer neighborhood and nice overall but our group in this street are eh…
Our neighbors hate us, and I don’t know why. They just don’t speak to us. In 1996 and 1999, when our two sons died, everybody in town sent cards, stopped by with food, or called to express sympathy. We didn’t hear a word from most of our neighbors. Not. one. word.
We have an awesome retired couple on one side. They are great with our kids, and they keep an eye on things for us.
We don’t know the neighbors on the other side very well. They are nice, but they do like to have parties outside until late in the evening. I guess it’s more funny than irritating.
We actually only have one neighbor we talk to on a regular basis. Most are just not that friendly. I wish the man across the street would take his Golden Retriever inside when the highs reach 101 degrees.

Advice… don’t even know where to begin.

I don’t know my neighbors that well. I do wish they would keep their cats out of my yard and clean up their own yard.
