Not a meme

Why do people think the Question of the Day is a meme?

For what it’s worth, it’s not a meme …. and it’s my blog and I’m saying here and now that it’s not a meme. The fun of the QOTD is when people put their answers to the questions in the comment section. Anyhow, why do people think it’s a meme?

I think it should be a mime. A meme, no!

  2. Bob says:

I get to you from a website called “The Daily Meme.” So that’s my answer.

Sorry if I’ve offended by leaving my answers on my own blog.

  3. Does anyone really have a good definition of meme?

It’s a word bloggers use but don’t really understand.

By the fact that I started this comment with a question, and it’s been published on a blog, this comment has now officially become a meme. :)

(Feel free to answer this comment meme on your own blog or post your answer in the comments are of this post.)

  4. Toni says:

Yes, it could be considered a meme. American Heritage Dictionary – Cites it as: Meme [noun] (mëm) rhymes with theme:
A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.

Which is what your QOTD does you transmit an written idea/question and your bloggers either answer it here or on their own sites/blogs. I usually answer your question on my site. I too run a meme called Saturday Special. And most of my bloggers answer it on their sites or my site.

BTW, I enjoy your questions and enjoy answering them. :)

  5. Karen says:

A meme is a cultural artifact that gets passed on. Wait, hold on, let me check Wikipedia….

Wow, to answer Rodney’s question, Wikipedia has a good definition of a meme. This blog is not a meme as I understand it.

My answer for why people would think it’s a meme is that they do not know what a meme really is.

(Also, anyone who answers these questions on their own blog instead of here entirely misses the point, IMHO*.)

    * IMHO is a meme.

  6. Marcia says:

I considered it a meme because it was listed on “The Daily Meme”, but I love your site, so to me it is now what you say it is, your blog with fun questions.

  7. laquet says:

Ah … is it because they can’t do the Haloscan thing like I didn’t used to be able to (how convuluted was that sentence*)?? I have to say that’s one of the best things about our new home … here I am at home and I’m commenting!!

    * And the scariest thing is I am a teacher!!

  8. Elspeth says:

I think if a few of these questions were put in one list and answered all at once by different people on their blogs and then the people tagged others to do the same, it would be a meme. But as it stands now I just see it as questions on a blog – to be answered as comments here by whoever wants to. Maybe people think that any question asked on the net (which is not a question requiring factual answers – as in a serious questionnaire) is a ‘meme’.

  9. Cat. says:

I do what Elspeth says, because of what Laquet said: I didn’t used to be able to comment for some reason. Also, you guys ask so many questions that I don’t have time to do them here in a timely manner, so I save them up and do them elsewhere (except for the question passing along thing, which (btw) I LOVE!).

On my blog, cuz it’s my blog I call ‘em memes. :-)

  10. Brenda says:

I’m not really sure. That’s how I found your blog though. I was looking up memes as something to put on my blog and found you. Loved it so I stayed! LOL

  11. Indigo says:

Cat. Glad to hear that you are now able to comment! :-) We usually only ask 2 questions a day …. and you are more than welcome to pick and choose rather than feel pressed to answer them all.

  12. Sue says:

    What Karen and Elspeth said.

  13. Allison says:

I should answer the questions more often. I read them daily and actually answer often in my creative writing journal. I read the questions every day, though.

So, to answer the question you posed… it is what you say it is. And whatever it is, it’s enjoyable. :-)
