Public Opinion: Voyeuristic

Even though the writer puts it out there for anyone to read, do you think that reading someone’s blog can be likened to voyeurism, or perhaps being fly on the wall in someone else’s life?

  1. I don’t read those kinds of blogs. :)

I think we all have conversations about what’s happening in our lives. Some of those conversations just happen online these days.

No…I try to avoid anything that is deliberately salacious.
That is just a creepy attention-getting mechanism..
There’s a lot of interesting comments out there about everyday life and feelings. But I don’t feel any particular connection to the people who write this stuff and I don’t feel that I am being voyeuristic if I read it.
    They put it out there.
Everyone knows by now that anything you put on the internet is out there for anyone to see.

Voyeuristic has such a bad connotation to it. Yes, it is a bit of a window into someone’s life. But I blog about 1/10 of my life, so that window is only open a crack. I think Twitter has more of this potential than blogging, because people so often spit out what they’re doing or thinking in the moment.

No, I do not believe that. You put it out there so someone will hopefully read it, otherwise what was the point of writing a blog. If you don’t want anybody to read it, get ajournal with a lock, put it under your socks in a locked closet in a locked bedroom.
Incidently, my blog does not define who I am. It is another persona. even my name is fiction on my blog. I just like to write.

I don’t think so. “Voyeurism” implies that you are sneaking a peek. Anybody who posts a blog understands that people are going to read it. We bloggers have the choice to reveal, or not reveal, the things we are willing to share with the world. (People might think my life is an open book because I’ve been blogging for so long and would be amazed at how much never even gets hinted at publicly).

Not voyeurism, but maybe like being a fly on the wall.
