When you travel, do you like to plan out what you’ll be doing prior to leaving, or do you like to wait and see what’s available when you arrive?

Even way back when I traveled alone, I would depend a lot on what turned up. You never know what’s there if you haven’t been there before.

Nowadays, I’m always dependant on other people. My choices then turn into “yes, I’d like to” or “no, go without me.”

Deomstically, I book a flight, car and place to stay. Maybe buy tickets if I need them in advance. Otherwise, I let it fly. Internationally, I plan a lot ore, because I don’t want robe without lodging. That said, I do a ton of research so I know what is available, but don’t plan each and every day’s events.

Like Jennifer, more structured on an international trip.

If we’re flying in country and renting a car, it tends to be more “see what happens” within a framework.

In 1998, we pulled a camping trailer across the country, up the CA coast into Canada, along the Alaska Highway, ferries back to Vancouver Island and to the mainland, then back home. We were gone for 3 1/2 months, drove over 16,000 miles (not counting ferry distance). We had reservations only when we had to make the ferry connections. Great fun!

We typically plan what days we will be where for lodging purposes. As for activities, we see how the weather is and plan accordingly.
