Past tense, past tense! In my trunk I carried a child’s size snow shovel and some paper grocery bags. (You can shove a bag under a wheel that’s spinning in ice or slush and get some traction.)

In the glove compartment, along with my car’s official papers and a flashlight, I kept…gloves! Whenever I lost one glove, I would put its mate into the glove box, in case I needed extra protection for my hands while scraping windshields, etc.

We always carry bottles of water in the trunk, since I drink so much water, along with reusable grocery bags and our Garmin GPS, which we use rarely. The glove compartment (surprised to discover people still wear gloves!) is filled with cords for the iTouch, the GPS, the Kindle and the cell phone.

You surprise me — and keep me grounded. I wear gloves when it’s cold, when I’m doing messy work, or whenever my hands need protection.

In this part of the country, when young women were being educated, we were taught that a lady always wears gloves.

The trunk is currently filled with a baseball equipment bag; a baseball hitting trainer; and a large canvas bag with 2 bench sitting cushions, sunscreen, and Kleenex. The glove box has the owners manual, registration and insurance information.

If I had a car, I would have gloves in my glove compartment.
