We were out of town, but our power here was out for about two hours during the big wind storm last Thursday. Last time before that it was two days during the tornado outbreak in 2011. You can’t really be prepared for it.
According to my journal — which is working, obviously — it was thirteen months ago. It was out for a couple of hours.
It happens very seldom, so that I can’t make plans for it. As a matter of fact, that was the point of this post:
tentative was all about.
I can’t remember when. We once had power go out for a day or two. I’m pretty prepared. We have a gas stove, so I can cook. We have candles and flashlights, and there is a cafe in town that has wifi, so usually the essentials can be covered. But there is that sense of helplessness that when you realize that nothing you depend on works!
(I also have a French press coffee maker, so I can boil water and make coffee, if only by candle light!)
June 29th, for about 90 minutes, during a wind storm in the late afternoon. It was unusual because our power lines are buried and it’s very rare that our power goes out. I am prepared with lanterns and a solar oven but that’s about it. I am working on changing that.
Last summer we had a few hours. It wasn’t a big deal since it was just before bedtime. The summer before, it went out for 3 days. I don’t think you can ever be prepared for 3 hot, sweaty days without power.
When did Iose power? when I got married.
It never came back.
