Harry Potter book leaks on to internet

Written by:

Despite a massive security operation, the final book of the Harry Potter series has been leaked online three days before its worldwide release.

Neil Blair, a lawyer for the author JK Rowling, confirmed today that some genuine material from the seventh Harry Potter book had been posted on the internet – but said that there was also much bogus content circulating.

It is the first time that material from any of the hugely successful boy wizard books has leaked onto the internet before publication. The book itself goes on sale in bookstores around the world on Friday at midnight, before when all copies are supposed to be closely guarded.

For the past two days, photographs of what are claimed to be pages of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows have appeared on a number of file-sharing websites.

How do you feel about someone posting photographs of the book on the internet prior to the book being released? If the photos were made available to you, would you read it?

  1. I’ve already had the epilogue, and list of characters deaths on my computer for awhile now. It’s harmless unless you use them for malicious purposes, but that’s up to the owner.

I don’t think that’s cool. I think it’s very unsportsman-like to leak the story. There are people who have been waiting for years to read this story (myself included) and to spoil it 3 days before the release is not cool.
But I can be responsible and make sure I don’t hear the information, so that I can enjoy my reading.

I am not a big Harry Potter fan however, I feel like the author is entitled to her intellectual rights and profits derived therefrom. I, myself, dislike spoilers so I would try to avoid seeing such material.

I heard about the leak earlier today and have absolutely no desire to read it. I’ve had my copy ordered from Amazon for some time now and will not be one of those checking the last page to find out how it ends. It’s going to be difficult not to turn on any media until I’ve finished reading the book, tho! I want to find out in the way J.K.R. intended the reader to find out.

Well, I’ve never been a Potter fan, but these things happen. I don’t seek out spoilers, but when I run into them, I don’t mind. It usually happens to me with TV, because the shows I watch take forever to get here. When I stumble upon some piece of information, I’m still surprised, whether I read it or saw it on the show. It doesn’t ruin anything for me really.

I’m not a Potter fan but I am rabid about other authors–and if it happened to my favorites, I would be disappointed that the fun is spoiled. Spoilers–aptly named!
